StMELF: ReiseLab

Driving the Future of Travel Agencies and Distribution

The aim of the project is to find innovative, digital, and application-oriented solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises in the Bavarian travel distribution industry in order to secure their future viability and competitiveness

Individual tourism businesses must not only respond to short-term crises but also initiate long-term transformation processes to ensure a more resilient and sustainable future. However, SMEs are often unable to face these dynamic challenges and changes on their own and require support throughout the transformation process. This is where the ReiseLab project comes in. Building on the experiences from the ReiseZukunft project, it aims to demonstrate how companies in the sector can secure their future through digitalization, the creation of new offerings, service innovations, or innovative business models.

The Project

In the project, short-term, medium-term, and long-term tools and measures are being developed together with key players from the Bavarian travel distribution sector to ensure its future viability. The main components of the project include:

Impulse Events: Strengthening competitiveness through knowledge sharing and new insights on current topics
Customer Insights Studies: Conducting regular customer surveys to continuously gain insights into the current customer perspective and align this with the travel distribution sector’s self-perception
Travel Agency Surveys: Identifying needs within the travel distribution sector
Tech Lab: Researching new technological solutions, networking, and transferring knowledge to the travel distribution sector (e.g., AI in travel distribution, hybrid customer journey, digitalization tests, market overview of software providers)
ReiseZukunft Hub: Research on topics such as skilled labor shortages, sustainability, and selected trends in travel distribution
Explainer Videos: Simple explanations of trend topics
• Additional one-time studies and surveys on various topics

The goal of the project is to find innovative, digital, and application-oriented solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises in the Bavarian travel distribution sector to secure their future viability and competitiveness. The focus is particularly on current trends and challenges, such as designing a hybrid customer journey in the digital age, addressing the shortage of skilled workers, developing future-proof business models, and creating customer-specific and innovative offerings.
