Greening the last mile of public home services delivery
The Green LaMiS project aims to develop environmentally friendly approaches for delivering social services in medium-sized and small cities across Central Europe. Currently, these services are often provided inefficiently and unsustainably, contributing to high CO2 emissions, traffic issues, and weak connections between urban and rural areas.
While there are existing efforts to make last-mile delivery for goods more eco-friendly, very few initiatives focus on applying these principles to social services—despite their increasing importance for elderly and vulnerable populations.
The project will first create a shared strategy based on an innovative tool that calculates the carbon footprint while accounting for regional characteristics and the types of services delivered. This strategy will be tested in Bergamo (Italy), Szombathely (Hungary), and Klis (Croatia) to develop a unified solution that can be expanded to other regions.
To ensure lasting impact, training sessions will be provided for local authorities and social organizations, equipping them with the skills to monitor and reduce CO2 emissions in social mobility. Additionally, existing mobility plans in the target regions will be updated with findings from the project to ensure future sustainability.
The project is supported by a diverse partnership, including organizations from Italy, Hungary, and Croatia, alongside the CENTOURIS Institute from Germany and European technical organizations.
