INTERREG (DTP): EcoVeloTour

Fostering enhanced ecotourism planning along the Eurovelo cycle route network in the Danube Region

The project EcoVeloTour is fostering enhanced ecotourism planning along the Eurovelo cycle route network in the Danube region.

EuroVelo - a network of 17 long-distance cycle routes - that connects the entire European continent. The focus at the Interreg project EcoVeloTour is on the cycle paths along the Danube from Germany to the Danube Delta in Romania. The aim of the cooperation is a transnational strategy with concrete approaches for regional ecotourism in the partner countries. The focus is not only on established tourist destinations, but also on neighboring locations on the cycle route. The conscious handling of natural and cultural conditions is particularly important here in order to further protect the existing natural and cultural heritage and the unique ecosystem in the Danube region.

The Project

CENTOURIS is responsible within the field of transnational market research. Among other things, the status quo and future potentials of the EuroVelo cycle network along the partner countries are evaluated, stakeholder analyzes are carried out and options for action are developed. Furthermore a comprehensive survey in all partner countries is conducted. This knowledge forms the basis for the development of tools and strategies to promote sustainable and ecological tourism along the EuroVelo cycle network in the Danube region.

How can cycle tourism along the Danube be made sustainable? The focus of EcoVeloTour is on the development of a coherent and cross-border approach for sustainable cycle tourism along the EuroVelo cycle path network in the Danube region. With 10 project partners and 6 associated partners from seven Danube countries, CENTOURIS is working on the three-year project.

Several country-specific strategy concepts with concrete approaches for regional ecotourism along the EuroVelo cycle network in the Danube region are the output from the project. In addition, smaller investments in nature trails or counting systems for cyclists are planned for the duration of the project. The aim is also to develop a mobile app and an e-learning platform for sustainable tourism. The experience gained will lead to policy recommendations that ensure the implementation of the project results.
